Poi was first witnessed in the Maori people of New Zealand, used in their cultural dances.
Today it is part of a larger umbrella of "flow arts", a form of movement that involves equipment called props.
Flow artists enjoy fire spinning with their props!

I have been practicing poi since 2018. I have patiently and persistently honed my art, and started performing in 2025.
